Magnets

Today, we have been learning about magnets. We investigated what happens when you place magnets end to end with the same poles facing each other or opposite poles facing each other.

Blazej and Aaryana filmed themselves explaining what happens. Take a look...

Times Tables Songs

Here are some songs to help you learn your times tables this year. I hope they help you with your Times Tables Challenges on Fridays.

Science experiment about friction

We are learning about 'Forces and Magnets' in Science this half term.
Today, we did an investigation to see which material would be the best at creating friction against a toy car on a ramp.

Here are some photos of us conducting our investigation.

The different surfaces were: wood; carpet; sponge and sandpaper.
Which one do you think was best at creating friction?

Addition and Subtraction

We have been looking at using different resources to help with our understanding of numbers and calculations. On Monday, we showed how to solve addition and subtraction using some of these resources.

Maths problem solving

This week, we have been looking at place value with three digit numbers. We were asked to solve problems (finding all possibilities), including with money.

Here are some pictures of us trying to work out the answers.

World War Two Extravaganza!

Years 3 and 4 have enjoyed a fantastic day learning all about World War Two. Some children even dressed up as evacuees from 1939!

The children made their own boxes to carry around a gas mask.

Then they were taken to the 'train station' where they lined up on the platform waiting to be taken to the countryside by their new families.

Some got to enjoy the outdoors, playing games, skipping and climbing trees...

...others were put to work by their new families doing chores such as cleaning and cooking ...

...mending shoes...

...working on a farm and milking cows, feeding chickens and cleaning out the pigs ...

...while the boys had to work hard digging, raking, and sowing seeds.

Some also experienced wartime school life.

It was a great day had by all. The children went home having enjoyed their activities and learning lots too!

Times Tables Challenges

Every Friday, we will be completing times tables challenges to help us learn our times tables and improve our quick recall of facts.

Year 3 are required to know their 3s, 4s and 8s, as well as the related division facts.

Take a look at this website to play a game to help you learn them.

Welcome Back

Welcome to the Year 3 blog!

I am looking forward to working with everyone this year.

Keep checking this page for updates on what we are learning about and useful websites to help everyone with their learning.
